Arkansas RazorbacksReview/OutlookThe 2000 Hogs made a remarkable run to close out the 2000 season and earn a big to the Las Vegas Bowl. After a 4-1 start, they dropped 4 in a row, including a 63-20 beating at Tennessee. But they finished with huge wins over Mississippi State and LSU.The 6-5 finish may seem lackluster at first glance, but it takes on a new light when you consider the injuries the team sustain. On the September 23rd win over Alabama, the Razorbacks lost their top 2 tailbacks, CedriCCbbs and Fred Talley, and wide receiver George Wilson. Cobbs and Wilson would miss the remainder of the season. In all, 10 players suffered season-ending injuries, and 29 missed practice and/or game time. What the Razorbacks may have been able to accomplish with those healthy players in the lineup is academic. Cobbs and Talley were averaging 97 and 96 rushing yards per game, respectively. At the very least, they likely would have made a better showing in the Las Vegas Bowl, a 31-14 loss, which all three players missed. 2000 may well have been Coach Houston Nutt's masterpiece at Arkansas. Coach Nutt will should have the opportunity, however, to outdo himself this season. Cobbs and Talley will both return to Arkansas as juniors, so expectations are running high for the offensive backfield. Joining them will be junior quarterback Robby Hampton, who completed 145 of 261 passes (55.6%) for 1548 yards (154.8/game), 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. His efficiency was 115.68. The defense returns 8 starters, but lose linebackers Quenton Caver and J.J Jones, and defensive end Randy Garner.
